A father tragically passed away in his bathroom after being sent home from the hospital with painkillers following chest pains
Stoke-on-Trent: A dad of four, Kevin Burnett, sadly died in his family bathroom on Boxing Day. He had been sent home from the hospital with painkillers after experiencing chest pains.
At just 47, Kevin fell behind the bathroom door, which made it tough for firefighters to reach him. By the time they got in, it was too late. His daughter, Kelsey, shared how devastated the family is, saying they’re in complete disarray.
On that fateful day, Kevin got up early but collapsed behind the door. Kelsey explained that the fire service had to cut the door to get to him. He had been dealing with chest pains for about a week and had just been to the hospital a few days earlier.
They sent him home with Co-codamol, but now the family is left wondering what went wrong. Kelsey mentioned that they suspect something might have been missed during his hospital visits. They’re waiting for the post-mortem to find out more.
Kevin leaves behind three daughters—Lucy, Chloe, and Sophie—and his partner, Gemma, whom he married last year. Kelsey said it’s been awful, ruining Christmas for them. But she’s grateful they had one last happy Christmas together.
To help with funeral costs, the family started a GoFundMe campaign. They need around £8,000 but are only asking for £3,000. Kelsey expressed how tough it feels to ask for help, but they just can’t cover the costs on their own.
They’ve received some donations, but the funeral director estimated the service and plot alone would cost about £7,000. With everything else, it adds up quickly. Kelsey’s youngest sister is just 11 and is really struggling with the loss.
They’re trying to get through this day by day, still in shock over what happened. Kelsey described her dad as a funny guy who loved his family and worked hard for them. It’s hard for her to find the right words to express the pain they’re feeling.
She added that life will never be the same without him. They’re all trying to support each other, especially their mum, who’s heartbroken. Kelsey hopes her dad knows how much he was loved and that they’ll miss him every day.
