A father of five reflects on his poor choices after being caught dealing drugs in a desperate attempt to earn quick cash
Longsight: A dad of five, Dewayne Frater, found himself in a tough spot after Christmas. He thought he could make some quick cash by dealing drugs. But things didn’t go as planned.
Police spotted him in a grey Ford Focus, and when they checked it out, they found a stash of drugs, including cocaine and MDMA. His lawyer told the court that Frater was just trying to support his family as a delivery driver.
On December 28, 2023, police were patrolling when they noticed Frater’s car. They had some intel that it might be linked to people carrying weapons. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case, but Frater was acting nervous and tried to pull away when questioned.
After being handcuffed, they found three mobile phones and some cannabis in his car. A deeper search revealed even more drugs hidden in a panel of the car. The total value of everything was between £1,765 and £2,695.
Frater’s phones showed he was following orders from someone higher up in the drug game. His lawyer argued that he was just a small player in a bigger operation and that he really regretted his choices.
Judge Alan Conrad decided not to send him to prison, considering his family situation and work history. Instead, he got a suspended sentence of two years, along with 150 hours of community service and some rehabilitation days.
Frater pleaded guilty to multiple counts of drug possession with intent to supply. Now, he’s left to reflect on his decisions and the impact they have on his family.
