Daniel Smith has been sentenced to 50 months for stabbing boxer Jon DP Shaw, who suffered serious injuries in the attack
Worcester: So, here’s the scoop. Daniel Smith got locked up for stabbing Jon DP Shaw, a heavyweight boxer, at an industrial estate on Sherriff Street. It was a pretty serious situation.
Smith, who’s 36 and from Cranham Drive in Warndon, was sentenced to 50 months in jail at Worcester Crown Court. This all went down on January 3, and it’s been a wild ride since the incident.
Jon, who’s 34 and a dad, was stabbed in the chest last June and ended up with a collapsed lung. He had to get treated at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, which is no joke.
After the attack, Jon managed to walk nearly two miles to the hospital, which is pretty brave. He later posted on Facebook, saying there’s no place for such violence in our community.
Doctors found that the knife had come really close to a major artery near his heart. Talk about a close call!
The judge gave Smith 44 months for wounding, plus some extra time for other charges, totaling 50 months. Even though he was labeled a dangerous offender, he didn’t get an extended sentence.
There was also a co-defendant, David Smith, who got a community order for 12 months for his part in the incident. He has to do some mental health treatment and rehabilitation activities.
We tried to get a comment from Jon, but he didn’t respond. It seems he wasn’t too keen on cooperating with the police investigation either.
Jon has mentioned before that he thinks his boxing skills helped him survive the attack. A witness even said he fought off two attackers, knocking one out cold. Pretty impressive!
Both guys were initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, but things have settled down a bit since then.
