A Darlington man, Lee Fox, was found dead after battling drug addiction, with an inquest revealing the circumstances surrounding his tragic passing.
Darlington: Lee Alexander Fox, 51, had a long struggle with drug addiction. Sadly, he was found dead on August 14 last year. The inquest, held on January 17, shed light on his tragic situation.
On the day he died, police got a call from the ambulance service around 9:26 PM. They were sent to a house on Grace Court in Darlington. It was a frantic scene.
A friend of Lee’s, Riley Smith, shared that he saw Lee, known as ‘Foxy,’ under the influence of drugs. He mentioned that Lee had laid down in the hallway and started snoring.
Later, another friend, Jordan Riding, woke up to find Lee wasn’t breathing. In a panic, he rushed to get his mom to call for help. It was a desperate situation.
When the ambulance arrived, sadly, they declared Lee dead. A pathologist later confirmed that his death was due to the misuse of a mix of three substances.
Detective Sergeant Lee Foster noted that the house showed signs of drug use, but no drugs were found at the scene. It was a messy place, with little furniture and signs of neglect.
Lee’s dad spoke about his son’s battle with addiction over the years. Earlier that year, Lee had taken some tablets from the internet with a friend, which led to a critical situation where he ended up in a coma. His friend didn’t make it, but Lee did, and he had to go back on methadone.
The inquest concluded that Lee’s death was indeed drug-related. Coroner Connolly stated that Lee had consumed a mix of prescribed and illicit substances, which ultimately led to his tragic end.
It’s a heartbreaking reminder of the struggles many face with addiction and the impact it can have on lives.
