A woman in Darlington has been sentenced for a brutal pub attack, leaving her victim traumatized and injured
Darlington: So, there was this wild incident at a pub called the Black Swan. Maria Jones got into a serious fight after her friend had a spat with a guy at the bar. It escalated quickly, and her then-boyfriend tried to keep others from stepping in.
This 40-year-old woman really went to town on her victim, throwing punches for over a minute. It was pretty brutal, and the whole thing was caught on the pub’s CCTV. Talk about being on camera for the wrong reasons!
In court, they revealed that her ex-boyfriend, Matthew Large, is also facing charges for his role in the incident. The footage showed Jones grabbing the woman and slamming her to the ground, hitting her repeatedly while others tried to help.
The poor victim ended up with cuts, bruises, and two black eyes. She even had to take time off work because of the emotional and physical toll it took on her. She mentioned having nightmares about the attack, which is just heartbreaking.
Jones, who lives in The Lanes, pleaded guilty to assault. Her lawyer said she’s changed a lot since then and has even split from her partner due to domestic violence. He claimed she feels genuine remorse for what she did.
In the end, the judge gave her a two-year suspended sentence and ordered her to pay £300 in compensation. Plus, she has to do some community service and attend rehabilitation sessions. It’s a tough lesson learned, but hopefully, she can turn things around.
