Hampshire Together has postponed the next phase of the Basingstoke hospital project due to extended feedback review time
Basingstoke: So, Hampshire Together is in charge of building a new hospital here, right? Well, they’ve hit the brakes on the next steps. They’re saying it’s taking longer than expected to go through all the feedback from a public consultation that ran from December to March.
They might even look at some alternative ideas or do a bit more work before moving forward. In their latest update, they mentioned that the Consultation Institute checked their public consultation process and gave it a thumbs up for best practices.
Now, NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight, along with NHS England, are sifting through all the feedback and other data to create a Decision-Making Business Case. This case will help them make informed choices about the hospital plans.
They stressed that it’s super important to take the time to analyze all the feedback. Sometimes, what people say can change how the proposals are viewed, and they might need to consider other options or do more work.
Interestingly, the Gazette has started a petition urging the government to speed up the new hospital project. This has been in the works for over five years, and folks are getting a bit impatient.
On top of that, the Department for Health and Social Care mentioned that the funding for the New Hospital Programme is set to run out in March. They’re currently reviewing all the projects, including the one for Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
As for the next steps, Hampshire Together is also looking into how to keep services staffed sustainably and which proposals are the best bang for the buck. They’re still chatting with patients, local groups, and health providers to see how the feedback impacts the program.
Later this year, the Decision-Making Business Case will be up for discussion at a public NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board meeting. They’ll be making some important decisions about how to move forward.
Keep an eye out for more details on that meeting if you want to catch the discussion and see how they make their choices.
