John Evans made Jonathan Edwards fear harm. This happened to Edwards and his partner last year. The court sentenced Evans on February 5th, giving him a suspended 14-month jail term. Evans admitted possessing a fake gun, intending to cause fear of violence with it.

Oliver King stated that Edwards was Evans’ neighbor. Edwards walked near Evans’ home around 4 PM on November 27, 2024. Evans then pointed a cap gun at Edwards and discharged it, making a loud bang.

Edwards felt very frightened and called the police right away for help. Armed officers arrived and arrested Evans. After his arrest, police searched Evans’ home and found several toy guns.

Evans told police that Edwards intimidated him, and he wanted to scare him into leaving him alone. Edwards said that they usually got along well, but Evans could be hostile when drinking or off medication.

Gareth Bellis defended John Evans in court, noting he had no prior convictions. Bellis said Evans was not taking medication for schizoaffective disorder. A report stated that Evans presents a low risk of re-offending.

Recorder Kevin Slack addressed John Evans, telling him to appreciate the seriousness of his actions, which must have terrified Mr. Edwards. The judge saw a decent chance of Evans changing and warned him of the consequences of re-offending. Evans must complete 25 days of rehabilitation activity and faces a 12-month exclusion order. Authorities seized and destroyed the imitation firearms.
