Back in 2023, while he was off duty and hanging out with his young son after coaching a football team, he was shot multiple times by some dissident republicans. Can you imagine that?
He spent weeks in intensive care, which is just heartbreaking. But he’s tough. He’s been recognized for his bravery and even received the King’s Police Medal from the Princess Royal at Buckingham Palace.
Recently, he had to retire for medical reasons, which is a bummer. The Chief Constable praised him for his courage and service, saying he was a victim of a cowardly attack.
John mentioned that his recovery is going well, thanks to the amazing medical teams and the support from his family. It’s great to see him moving forward after such a traumatic experience.
