Greasby: The loss of Owen Browell has hit his family and friends hard. He was just 41 when he passed away after a tough fight with glioblastoma, a nasty brain cancer.

Owen was diagnosed in February 2024, and he showed incredible strength throughout his illness. He managed to celebrate one last Christmas with his wife, Lindsey, and their two daughters, Ava and Freya, before he passed on January 2.

Originally from Greasby in Wirral, Owen was a dedicated primary school teacher for 15 years. He loved returning to Merseyside to catch up with his family and childhood pals.

His best mate, David Southgate, is heartbroken. He described Owen as a devoted dad, loving husband, and an inspiring teacher who meant so much to everyone around him.

David shared how Owen tried to make the most of his time after feeling unwell one day in January. It was shocking for someone as fit as Owen, an ultramarathon runner, to be so sick.

After being taken to the hospital, doctors initially thought he had encephalitis. But tests later revealed the brain tumor. They thought it was slow-growing, but Owen’s condition worsened quickly.

Owen underwent a major operation to remove the tumor, but sadly, it had spread. He went through several rounds of chemotherapy, but it didn’t work out as hoped.

Even while battling cancer, Owen kept working. He downplayed his struggles, just wanting to get on with life. He took public transport to schools since he couldn’t drive, showing his commitment to his job.

His impact as a teacher was huge, and many people took to social media to express their sorrow. One parent shared how her kids loved being taught by him and how he became a friend to their family.

His school remembered him as an exceptional teacher and a cherished colleague. They highlighted his kindness and ability to uplift others, calling him a true friend to all.

A GoFundMe was set up to help Owen create memories with his family, raising an impressive £13,000. They used it for a magical trip to Euro Disney and a lovely getaway to Centre Parcs.

In a final act of kindness, Owen chose to donate his organs, hoping to save others’ lives. His legacy of love and friendship will surely live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
