A beloved dog was tragically killed following a brutal attack in Worcester
Worcester: It’s such a heartbreaking story. Michelle Barraza-Marriott was on vacation in Mexico when she got the awful news about her dog, Laika. The poor pup had been attacked and was in terrible shape, needing to be put to sleep.
Laika was being looked after by Andy Marriott’s mom, Jan, who tried to help but ended up in the hospital herself. She was just walking Laika near St Matthias Church when another dog came charging at them and attacked.
Jan was on a lead with Laika when the incident happened around 7 PM. The attacking dog was on a lead too, but the owner couldn’t control it. It sounds so chaotic and scary.
Richard, Jan’s other son, got the call for help after the attack. He described the scene as horrendous, saying Laika was badly hurt. The owner of the attacking dog jumped in to help, telling Jan to grab Laika and run.
Jan was in shock and managed to get Laika inside, but it was a nightmare. Richard rushed to the vet, but sadly, they were told Laika wouldn’t survive. He had to break the news to his brother, which was just devastating for everyone.
Jan suffered serious bite wounds and was still in the hospital waiting for treatment. Michelle shared how much they loved Laika, saying she was the sweetest dog and that their family is heartbroken.
The police have been working on the case and have identified the dog that attacked Laika. They’ve confirmed that the dog has been put to sleep, and they’re making sure the community is safe.
