Footage reveals the tragic moment armed police shot a man during a standoff on Christmas Eve in Redditch, Worcestershire
Redditch: So, there was this really sad incident on Christmas Eve. Armed police shot a man named Marcus Meade during a standoff that lasted over five hours. It all went down at his home on Fownhope Close.
Police showed up around 2 PM after someone raised concerns about a man with a knife. Sadly, by 8 PM, Marcus was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot.
His family released the doorbell footage, and it’s pretty intense. You can hear loud bangs and see flashes before Marcus was hit. He died about 20 minutes later.
West Mercia Police said he was shot once. His family described him as a well-respected guy in the community. He even got a bravery award back in 2003 for helping to catch a murderer.
His brother, Jahziah, has started a Gofundme to help with funeral costs. He shared how much Marcus meant to him, calling him a phenomenal brother and a great friend. They had a close bond, and now there’s a huge void in their family.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, is looking into the shooting. They mentioned that officers tried to negotiate with Marcus before using distraction devices to enter the house.
After that, they used a taser, and then one officer fired a shot that hit Marcus in the chest. They did their best to help him, but he sadly didn’t make it.
The IOPC is working hard to figure out what happened and is meeting with Marcus’s family to keep them updated. They want to ensure the investigation is thorough and based on the evidence they gather.
Meanwhile, the Gofundme has already raised nearly £7,000 to help with the funeral expenses. It’s just a heartbreaking situation for everyone involved.
