Dover council is set to approve a £20m renovation of Tides Leisure Centre, starting next year to enhance local facilities.
Deal: Exciting news for the community! The Tides Leisure Centre is finally getting a £20 million makeover, and it’s about time. This project has been in the works since 2018, but delays due to the pandemic pushed things back.
Now, it looks like the Dover District Council is ready to give the green light. They’re planning to kick off the renovations next year, which is a big relief for everyone who uses the facility.
So, what’s in store? The new design includes a six-lane swimming pool, which is a step up from the five-lane option they were considering. Plus, there will be fun inflatable activities and a splash pad for toddlers, which sounds awesome!
But not everything is getting an upgrade. Unfortunately, the popular slides won’t be replaced, and the café will have a smaller capacity. It’s a bit of a bummer, but at least there will be plenty of new fitness stations and studios.
As for the current state of the centre, it’s been around since 1987, and let’s just say it’s showing its age. The council has already set aside £5 million for the project, but they’ll need to borrow a bit more to cover the costs.
They’re hoping to start construction in February 2026, with the aim of wrapping things up by summer 2027. It’s a long wait, but the community is buzzing with excitement about the future of Tides!
