A fierce car fire on Chester Road caused major disruptions during the morning rush hour in Sutton Coldfield, leading to road closures and traffic chaos.
Sutton Coldfield: So, there was this wild scene on Chester Road the other morning. A car just went up in flames while everyone was trying to get to work. It was around 8 am, and you can imagine the chaos.
A Volvo was parked on the pavement, and suddenly it was engulfed in flames. A local guy, who didn’t want to be named, saw the smoke and decided to check it out. He stepped out of an alley and was greeted by this fiery spectacle.
He quickly crossed the street, worried the car might explode, but kept filming as cars zoomed by, some barely missing the flames. It was a bit of a nail-biter, with some drivers even swerving into oncoming traffic to avoid the fire.
When the fire brigade showed up, they had to close off Chester Road. Thankfully, they got the fire under control pretty quickly, but not before a huge cloud of white smoke filled the air.
The resident mentioned he lived a few streets away and saw the smoke rising over the houses. He even joked about how the car was “de-icing” itself in a rather dramatic way. He said the Volvo looked like it had been burning for a few minutes by the time he got there.
According to the West Midlands Fire Service, they arrived to find the car well alight and quickly got to work with their hoses. They had it out in no time, and the police were there to manage the traffic.
Oh, and National Express had to divert their bus service because of the road closure, but they were back on track shortly after 9 am. Just another day in the life, right?
