A 31-year-old man from Bury St Edmunds has lost his driving licence after a close call with an off-duty officer in Peterborough
Peterborough: So, there was this drink driver who really messed up. A 31-year-old guy named Ionut Chitu from Badwell Ash was caught by an off-duty cop.
It all went down on December 23. The officer was heading to work when he had a close call with Chitu’s white Audi A1 on the A1M. Talk about a scary moment!
Thinking something was off, the officer decided to follow him and called for backup. Smart move, right? They managed to pull Chitu over on the A14 at Milton not long after.
When they tested him, he blew a whopping 82 microgrammes—more than double the legal limit. Even after that, he still tested at 70 in custody. Yikes!
Chitu ended up in court on January 3, where he pleaded guilty to drink driving. The judge disqualified him from driving for 18 months and slapped him with a £500 fine.
PC Ella Coulson, the investigating officer, said it was a good thing the off-duty officer was there. He stopped Chitu from putting anyone else in danger. Now, Chitu has a lot of time to think about his choices.
And hey, if anyone sees a suspected drink or drug driver, they can call the police anytime at 0800 032 0845. Better safe than sorry!
