Middlewich: Bill Connors was driving a black BMW when he crashed into a white Volkswagen. This happened on September 4, 2023, around 6:30 PM.

The van driver got hurt badly. Instead of calling for help, Connors called a friend to pick him up. He and his friend then ran away from the scene.

Luckily, some people nearby helped the injured man until emergency services arrived. The 58-year-old victim was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.

Cheshire Police started an investigation. They gathered evidence, including CCTV footage of Connors getting into his car before the crash. A witness also filmed him at the scene.

Connors managed to avoid police for nine days. He was finally found hiding under a bed in a caravan on September 13 and was arrested.

He was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop. Connors pleaded guilty and appeared in court on January 29.

He received a two-year prison sentence, which is suspended for two years. Connors is also banned from driving for two years and must pass an extended driving test to get his license back.

After the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Simon Degg spoke about the case. He emphasized the responsibility that comes with driving and how Connors ignored it, causing serious harm to another person.
