A driver faces trial for causing a passenger’s death in a crash on the A69 near Newcastle
Newcastle: A driver named Ross Neville has pleaded not guilty to causing the death of his passenger, Matthew Oliver Newton. This happened during a crash on the A69 near Throckley.
The incident took place on November 28 when Neville was driving a Ford Raptor. Reports say he lost control of the vehicle, leading to a serious collision around 11:30 PM.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but sadly, Matthew, a 28-year-old motor trader from Carlisle, was pronounced dead there.
Northumbria Police quickly launched an investigation into what went wrong. Neville, who is 34 and from Canonbie in Scotland, was arrested and charged with dangerous driving.
He appeared in court recently, where they set a trial date for February 9 next year. The judge also mentioned that he needs to submit a signed defense statement by April 16.
After spending 39 days in custody, Neville was granted bail but must return for the next hearing in May. If he skips the trial, it could go ahead without him.
Matthew’s family shared their heartbreak over his loss, describing him as a wonderful son and brother who was proud of his business, Cumbria Motor Trading. They remember him as someone who lived life to the fullest and was always there for others.
His family’s tribute highlighted how much he will be missed, saying their home feels too quiet without him. They emphasized that Matthew’s life will always be celebrated by those who knew him.
