Wolverhampton: A driver made headlines for all the wrong reasons when he drove the wrong way on the A55 and A525 at a crazy 100mph in 20mph zones. It was only when his car got stuck in mud that the chase ended, with an officer ready to use a Taser.

The judge didn’t hold back, calling it the worst case of reckless driving without any casualties she had ever seen. She said it was a miracle that no one got hurt and sentenced him to 16 months in jail.

Dale Broome, 29, pleaded guilty to five driving offences and faced the music at Caernarfon Crown Court. The trouble started when an off-duty detective, driving home in his BMW, got a nasty surprise. Broome squeezed his silver Ford Focus between the detective’s car and an HGV, causing a bit of chaos.

The detective kept his cool, noted the registration, and reported it. Fast forward a couple of hours, and another officer spotted Broome’s car speeding on Wellington Road in Rhyl. The chase was on, and Broome was hitting 100mph in 20mph zones, which is just insane.

Things got even crazier when he entered the A525 going the wrong way. The officer followed him, and they spotted him near The Talardy Hotel roundabout. Broome then took a wild turn onto the A55, still going the wrong way.

Eventually, he drove off the A55 and got stuck at an embankment. When he finally got out of the car, he had his hands up, and it turned out he was more than twice the legal drink-drive limit.

The prosecutor pointed out that it was pure luck that no serious accidents happened that night. Broome’s lawyer said he panicked and knew his driving was extremely dangerous. Broome himself admitted he was stupid and needed to grow up.

He has a pregnant partner and stepkids, plus a job lined up, but the judge made it clear: it was a miracle no one was seriously hurt or killed. She sentenced him to 16 months for dangerous driving, plus additional time for driving while disqualified and failing to stop.

Broome also faced charges for driving with excess alcohol and no insurance, but those didn’t come with extra penalties. He’s now banned from driving for nearly five years and will have to pass an extended driving test to get back on the road.
