A survey reveals that only half of passengers feel safe on the Dumbarton line, citing bad behavior and football-related issues as concerns.
Only half felt safe on Dumbarton services, while eighty percent felt safe traveling to Edinburgh. Dumbarton lines run from Edinburgh through Glasgow and go to Oban and Mallaig.
Passengers feared bad behavior a lot, and football-related problems were also worrying. Staff safety was a big issue too; only 37% felt safe at work. They mentioned bad behavior, and alcohol problems added to their worries.
The RMT union finds this very bad, stating that most Scottish rail staff don’t feel secure. Attacks on rail staff are too common. They want strict punishments for offenders.
British Transport Police cares about staff safety and won’t tolerate abuse. They made a plan after the survey, aiming to patrol more often. Officers will target problem areas, including major events too.
