The funeral for Dunfermline Athletic legend Alex Edwards will take place on January 14 at Cairneyhill Parish Church
His funeral service is set for January 14 at Cairneyhill Parish Church at 10 am. Afterward, the cortege will pass East End Park at 11:10 am for fans to pay their respects, followed by a committal at Dunfermline Crematorium.
Alex had a stellar career, playing for Hibernian and finishing at Arbroath. He was a standout during the 1960s, scoring 56 goals in 348 appearances for the Pars.
He made his debut just days after turning 16 and was part of a memorable 6-2 victory over Valencia. Later, he helped Hibernian win the 1972 League Cup and was part of a historic 7-0 win against Hearts.
Alex was honored in 2005 by being inducted into the Pars Hall of Fame and received the same recognition from Hibernian last year.
Just last March, he celebrated with fellow legends at the unveiling of a mural honoring the club’s greatest players.
His former teammate Roy Barry praised him, saying he should have played for Scotland. They were quite different players but shared a strong bond off the pitch.
Fans paid tribute to Alex during Dunfermline’s last home match against Falkirk, holding a minute’s applause in his memory.
