Barclay McIntosh receives a British Empire Medal for his community service in Fife
Dunfermline: Barclay McIntosh just got a big nod for his hard work in the community. He received a British Empire Medal in the New Year Honours list. How cool is that?
This 72-year-old has been busy helping all sorts of organizations in Fife and beyond for years. He was over the moon to get this recognition.
Barclay shared that a friend once told him he should be nominated for an award because he’s always doing good things. That’s some solid encouragement!
As a retired physics teacher, he’s been involved in fundraising for groups like the SSPCA, Cancer Research UK, and Guide Dogs. He’s also a citizen advocate with Dunfermline Advocacy.
He even did hospital radio for ten years! Barclay always wanted to be in radio, and he got his chance with Radio West Fife.
His love for animals shines through too. He’s part of the Swan Lifeline on the River Thames and has a soft spot for the SSPCA and Guide Dogs.
Barclay is also quite active with CHAS and Cancer Research. He’s known for running the tombola at events. As a former teacher, he’s got a knack for making sure no one slips by!
