East Lothian Woodland Owner Appeals Over Fence Ban Amid Controversy

Whitecraig: A woodland owner is pushing back after being told he can’t put up a fence around his property. The guy wanted to replace an old wire fence with a taller timber one, but the planners said no way. They think it would look too imposing at the entrance to the community.

The owner’s team argues that it’s unfair to call the fence intrusive when there’s a tall stone wall right across the road. They also say the planners are wrong about the fence harming any trees. The owner just wants to protect his woodland, especially since there’s a waste and recycling center nearby, which can get pretty noisy.

The planners had their reasons, saying the fence would be a big eyesore and ruin the look of the area. They claimed it would stand out too much and mess with the natural vibe of the woodland. The appeal is set to be heard by the council’s Local Review Body soon, so we’ll see how it goes.
