East Renfrewshire Council has been unable to sell a unique number plate despite hopes for a big payday
East Renfrewshire: So, it turns out that the council has been trying to sell this rare number plate, HS 0, for two whole years. They thought it would be a hit, especially with celebs like Harry Styles in mind.
The council was hoping to cash in big time, aiming for a six-figure sum to help with their budget. But since they put it up for sale in January 2023, it’s been pretty quiet on the interest front.
They were really banking on someone famous snapping it up, like Harry Styles or even Hilary Swank. But, alas, no bites so far. The council is still holding out hope, though, saying they’re confident it’ll eventually sell for a good price.
Interestingly, Styles, who loves classic cars, hasn’t shown any interest. A recent freedom of information request revealed that there’s been hardly any interest from potential buyers.
A spokesperson for the council reassured everyone that the plate is still on the market and they believe it will fetch a hefty sum. They actually inherited this plate from the old Eastwood District Council.
Just a little history lesson: when vehicle registration started back in the 1900s, they used a simple system with letters and numbers. The prefix HS was specifically for Renfrewshire, which is where this plate comes from.
