A car accident in Eastwood led to a severed gas pipe, prompting emergency services to respond and evacuate nearby residents for safety.
Eastwood: This morning, a Ford crashed into a house on Anders Fall, causing quite a stir. Police, firefighters, and gas engineers quickly blocked off the area.
The car didn’t just hit the house; it also smashed into a neighbor’s vehicle before severing the gas pipe at Geoff Wilkins’ home. Poor Geoff, who’s 80, was understandably shaken up.
He mentioned that his carpet is completely wrecked. Can you imagine? They had just traveled down that morning, and now this!
Residents had to leave their homes while Cadent crews worked on the gas pipe. They got the call around 11:30 AM after confirming the main gas line was damaged.
Geoff said, “It’s beyond belief. We’re talking to our insurance now to sort things out.” His wife, Susan, was really grateful to the neighbors who called the fire service right away.
Geoff added, “There was a lot of gas. If anything had ignited, it could have been a different story.” Thank goodness nothing happened!
Firefighters and Cadent worked together to secure the area by 1:01 PM, and soon after, neighbors were allowed back home.
A Cadent spokesperson explained that they were called to the scene and had to cut off the gas supply to the affected property. Thankfully, the other homes nearby were safe.
They assured everyone that no other gas supplies were impacted, which is a relief.
