Edale: A helicopter from Humberside was called to help out in Derbyshire’s Peak District. A walker had a nasty fall on the icy terrain and was in quite a bit of pain.

Emergency services, including mountain rescue teams, rushed to Lady Bay Clough near Edale around 11:55 GMT on Saturday. But guess what? The rescue was held up because of all the parked cars nearby.

The Edale Mountain Rescue Team mentioned that their access was really slowed down by cars parked in various spots. They even had to call in a coastguard helicopter to assist with the rescue.

While waiting for help, the walker’s friends did a great job of keeping him warm and gave him some pain relief. Buxton-based rescuers eventually got to the scene to help the injured walker out of the tricky situation.

The MRT noted that the walking group was well-prepared, which was a relief. But they also pointed out that parked cars can really get in the way of emergency services.

So, if you’re out enjoying the snowy weather, just keep in mind that those emergency vehicles might need to get through where you parked your car.

On Saturday, the coastguard made a trip inland because the area was covered in about a foot of snow over steep, rocky heather. Thanks to some skilled flying, the Rescue 912 helicopter managed to winch the walker to safety and get him to a waiting ambulance in Edale.
