Despite serious incidents, Edmonton’s Drumsheds nightclub keeps its license with new safety measures in place
Edmonton: So, there’s been quite a stir about this nightclub called Drumsheds. It opened up in an old Ikea store and quickly became a hotspot. But lately, it’s been in the news for all the wrong reasons.
There have been two tragic drug-related deaths and a stabbing at the venue. The council had a long meeting about it, and despite the serious issues, they decided to let the club keep its license. They just added some new rules to make things safer.
During the meeting, they talked about how the first death happened after a night out at Drumsheds. A few people got really sick from drugs, and one sadly passed away. The second incident was similar, with another person dying after taking MDMA at the club.
Then there was a stabbing incident where someone got hurt pretty badly. It’s concerning that these things happened at such a big venue, which can hold up to 15,000 people.
The police had asked for a full review of the club’s license because of these events. They pointed out that Drumsheds was linked to serious crime. The council did decide to keep the license but with stricter conditions and more checks in the future.
Interestingly, the owners of Drumsheds promised to step up their safety measures. They want to make sure everyone can enjoy the music and atmosphere without worrying about their safety.
Some local leaders even chimed in, saying it would be a big loss if the club had to close. They emphasized how important it is for the community and the culture in Edmonton.
But not everyone is convinced. Some attendees have raised concerns about safety practices at the venue, saying things like the queues were unsafe and security wasn’t up to par.
In the end, the council is keeping a close eye on Drumsheds. They want to ensure that the club can operate safely while still being a fun place for people to enjoy music and dance.
