Network Rail is investing £1.5 million to repair a historic bridge in Glasgow, ensuring safety and reliability for the community.
Glasgow: Network Rail is on the job, fixing up a 140-year-old railway bridge. They’re putting in £1.5 million to make sure everything stays safe and sound.
Don’t worry, rail services won’t be disrupted. They’ve got traffic management in place to keep things moving while the engineers do their thing.
Christina Thomson, the project manager, mentioned that this work is part of a bigger plan to improve bridges. They’re aiming to extend the bridge’s life by at least 20 years.
She also noted that Eglinton Street is a busy route from the southside into the city center. They appreciate everyone’s patience during the 11 weeks of work.
Meanwhile, they’re also reminding folks about some overnight road closures for repairs on Garry Viaduct, which is a bit further out near Blair Atholl.
This four-month project started in December and is all about making sure the 161-year-old structure stays strong over the River Garry.
They’re investing a lot in the Highland Main Line too, with a £3 million bridge replacement project at Killiecrankie. A new bridge is already in place, and they expect to wrap that up by March 2025.
Andy McManus, another project manager, emphasized how crucial this work is for keeping services safe and reliable. They’re grateful for the community’s understanding as they tackle these important projects.
