Elon Musk has launched a fierce attack on Keir Starmer regarding the grooming gang scandal and the lack of a public inquiry in the UK
Oldham: So, Elon Musk is stirring the pot again, and this time it’s about Keir Starmer and the whole grooming gang issue in the UK. Musk has been pretty vocal, criticizing Starmer and the Labour government for not doing enough about it.
It all kicked off when Jess Phillips, the safeguarding minister, turned down calls for a public inquiry into child sexual exploitation in Oldham. She said it was up to the local council to handle it, which didn’t sit well with a lot of people.
Musk didn’t hold back. He suggested that Phillips “deserves to be in prison” for her stance. He’s been posting about this on X, formerly Twitter, more than 40 times in just a day. He’s really pushing the narrative that Starmer is to blame for letting these “rape gangs” operate without facing justice when he was in charge of the Crown Prosecution Service.
He even called Starmer “two-tier Keir,” saying there’s no justice for serious crimes but plenty of punishment for social media posts. It’s a pretty bold claim, and it’s got a lot of people talking.
Other politicians, like Tory leader Kemi Badenoch, are also jumping in, calling for a full national inquiry into the scandal. They feel it’s high time the victims got some justice.
As for the government, they’re trying to brush off Musk’s comments. Health Secretary Wes Streeting said they take child sexual exploitation seriously but also suggested Musk might be a bit misinformed. He’s open to working with Musk, though, which is interesting.
There’s been a national inquiry already, and while the government is supportive of local inquiries, they’re not keen on more national ones. They want Oldham to take the lead on this, which is a bit of a mixed message.
So, will there be an inquiry? It looks like there might be, but it’s going to depend on what Oldham decides to do. It’s a complicated situation, and it’s clear that this issue isn’t going away anytime soon.
