Stockbridge: So, you know that crazy weather we’ve been having? Well, former Hampshire County Councillor Michael Woodhall decided to do something about it. This guy, who’s 85, took it upon himself to tackle the flooding on the Stockbridge to Houghton road.

There was over 75 metres of water, and it was pretty deep—up to half a metre in some spots! It was covering most of the road, making it a real hazard for drivers. Plus, the flooding had caused some nasty potholes, too.

Mr. Woodhall didn’t just sit back and complain. He actually climbed over a barbed wire fence to clear out a natural gulley that was all overgrown. And guess what? Within minutes, the water started to drain away, cutting the flooding down by half!

Longstock Parish Council had already told Hampshire County Council about the issue weeks ago, but nothing had been done. Woodhall knows how tight local budgets can be, but he remembers a time when a quick call to the highway team would get things moving right away.

He said, “We live in a changing world,” and it’s clear he’s not just going to sit back and watch things get worse.
