Mesa: A family is heartbroken after their 5-year-old daughter was hit by a truck while crossing the street. It happened the day after Christmas, which makes it even more tragic.

Ariyah Marie Elias was crossing at East Guadalupe Road and South Hawes Road with her mom and some other kids when the accident occurred. They were crossing when the light changed, and a truck came through on a green light.

The driver didn’t see them until it was too late. Police said they tried to save Ariyah at the scene, but sadly, she didn’t make it. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The family is devastated and wants justice for their little girl. Her mom, Alora Silva, expressed her pain, saying, “I want some answers. I want justice for my daughter.”

It’s heartbreaking to think that Ariyah had just turned five a month before this tragedy. She still had Christmas presents waiting for her at home.

Silva shared her feelings of guilt, saying she feels like she ruined not just her daughter’s life but also the lives of the other kids who witnessed the accident.

To help with funeral costs, the family set up a GoFundMe page. They wrote about how unfair the situation is and how their love for Ariyah will never fade, even through this nightmare.
