Billingborough: You won’t believe the heroics that went down recently. A couple of farmers really stepped up during the flooding crisis. They used a JCB digger to rescue five people, including a pregnant woman, and even a dog!
The weather has been pretty rough in Lincolnshire, and it hit Billingborough hard. Lots of folks in the village came together to help each other out. Farmer Dean Wesley and his son, Ryan, jumped into action after getting a call from Dean’s parents, who were stuck in their bungalow surrounded by water.
Dean shared how they had to lift his elderly parents out of the window using the digger bucket. His mom has mobility issues, so it was a tense moment. Thankfully, they managed to get them to safety and then Ryan went on to rescue others in the village.
Dean couldn’t help but feel proud of his son for all the good they were doing. They didn’t stop there, either. The family has been busy delivering sandbags to help out local businesses and friends affected by the flooding.
But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Their own farm got hit hard too, with 80 acres underwater and some crops damaged. Dean thinks it’s time for the community to have a serious chat with the Environment Agency about preventing future floods. He pointed out that many homes flooded again this year, just like last year.
He believes that if everyone works together, they can find better solutions. The local council has been super grateful for all the community efforts during this tough time. They’re even waiting for a boat to help people get back into their homes and rescue pets.
It’s been a real team effort, and the village has come together like never before. Even with the flooding still causing issues, the spirit of the community shines through.
