Torquay Police have issued banning orders to a group of youths after reports of harassment and disorder in the town centre
Torquay: Recently, a group of unruly kids has been causing quite a stir in the town centre. Shoppers have reported feeling threatened and even assaulted by these youths, who were riding around on bikes.
One woman shared her experience online, saying she was followed by a group of boys who verbally abused her elderly mother and kicked her disabled husband. It’s no wonder the police stepped in and issued banning orders.
The local police have been on it, saying they’ve dealt with these kids causing trouble. They even seized a couple of bikes and mobile phones from them. If these kids come back, they’ll face arrest.
People have been sharing their stories online, warning others to be careful in Torquay. One holidaymaker said she was harassed and will never return, which is pretty sad for a place that should be welcoming.
There’s been a lot of chatter about the lack of parental control, with some folks worried these kids could cause a serious accident. Others think it’s just kids being kids, saying the issues in Torquay are minor compared to bigger cities.
The police are using laws from the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act to keep things in check. They can disperse groups causing trouble for up to 48 hours and even take away items that might be used to harass others.
Just last month, a Christmas light display was vandalized by a group of these so-called “feral kids.” The organizers were frustrated, saying they’ve faced verbal abuse and damage to their property while trying to set up for the holidays.
