Emergency services responded quickly to a fire at a derelict school in Trafford, with no injuries reported and investigations underway
Trafford: On Tuesday afternoon, emergency crews rushed to a derelict school building after a fire broke out. The old Trafford High School on Lydney Road has been closed since 2020.
Firefighters arrived quickly, with several fire engines on the scene. Witnesses mentioned seeing some kids enter the building just before the fire started, which is a bit concerning.
Greater Manchester Police got the call around 2:30 PM. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but they’re still looking into what happened. There were reports of a group nearby, but no arrests have been made yet.
Footage from the scene showed fire engines lining the road, and it took about 90 minutes to get the fire under control after crews managed to break into the building.
A spokesperson from the fire service said they used breathing apparatus and hose reels to tackle the flames. They also had thermal imaging cameras and other gear to help them out. Firefighters stayed on site for about an hour and a half to ensure everything was safe.
