Five people face charges in Argentina linked to the death of One Direction star Liam Payne, who died at 31 after a fall.
Buenos Aires: So, it’s a pretty shocking situation. Five people have been charged in Argentina over the death of Liam Payne, the One Direction star. He tragically passed away at just 31 years old after falling from a hotel balcony.
The incident happened at the Casa Sur Hotel, and it’s been reported that the hotel manager, a receptionist, and a friend of Liam’s are facing manslaughter charges. The hotel manager is Gilda Martin, the receptionist is Esteban Grassi, and Liam’s friend is Roger Nores.
Two other hotel staff members, Ezequiel Pereyra and Braian Paiz, are charged with supplying cocaine. It’s all pretty intense, and the investigation kicked off right after Liam’s death on October 16.
Initially, three people were charged with abandonment and drug-related offenses, but their names weren’t released at that time. The autopsy revealed that Liam suffered multiple traumas and internal bleeding, which is just heartbreaking.
Prosecutors ruled out self-harm and noted that he likely wasn’t fully conscious when he fell. They found substances in his hotel room, and it seems the hotel staff called for help, mentioning a guest who was “intoxicated by drugs and alcohol.”
Liam’s funeral in November was attended by his ex-partner Cheryl Tweedy and his One Direction bandmates. Fans all over the world are still mourning his loss, and Rita Ora even paid a heartfelt tribute to him at the MTV EMAs in Manchester.
After One Direction went on hiatus, Liam had a successful solo career, releasing his debut album in December 2019. It’s just so sad to see such a talented life cut short.
