Trafford stables face potential fines for flood debris, but council clarifies situation with support.
Trafford: So, there’s this stables in Urmston that got hit hard by the floods on New Year’s Day. The River Mersey really swelled up, and it caused a mess. Paul Smith, the site manager, was told by a council officer that the debris left behind was considered fly-tipped waste. Can you believe that?
He mentioned that the officer said they didn’t know how else to label it and that they might have to pay a fine. That’s a tough break, right? But here’s the twist: the council later stepped in to clear things up.
They sent someone over to chat with the stables’ owner and offered to deliver a skip for free. That’s pretty generous of them! They also made it clear that they wouldn’t be prosecuting for fly-tipping in this case, which is a relief.
Paul shared how the floods really impacted the stables and the surrounding area. It’s like the whole place turned into an island with the river and the brook surrounding it. Sadly, four dogs from the nearby kennels didn’t make it through the flooding.
He described the flood as something he’d never seen before. The speed at which the water rose was just wild. Thankfully, the horses were moved to higher ground before things got too serious. But it’s going to take a while to get everything back to normal, and they lost a lot of hay in the process.
