The Food Museum in Stowmarket has proposed plans to restore and develop three historic buildings to enhance visitor experience
Stowmarket: The Food Museum is making some exciting moves! They’ve submitted plans to the Mid Suffolk District Council to work on three buildings at their site.
They want to restore two historic buildings and add a brand-new one. One of the main highlights is relocating Edgar’s Farmhouse, which is a 14th-century gem.
They’re also looking to develop the Boby Building and create a new Kitchen Exhibition Building. How cool is that?
There’s a neat CGI image showing how Edgar’s Farmhouse might look in its new spot in the museum’s westerly meadow. This farmhouse has quite a history, having been rebuilt after being demolished in the 1970s.
Now, they want to move it closer to the other historic buildings, which sounds like a great idea for the museum’s layout.
If everything goes through, they’ll add a crosswing parlour and a service wing to the farmhouse, plus an external kitchen. It’s going to be a real treat!
As for the Boby Building, it dates back to the 1870s and used to be part of engineering workshops. It’s now a key part of the museum, showcasing agricultural engines and craft workshops.
The museum plans to make it more accessible with new features like stairs, a lift, and even a new kitchen. They want to create a welcoming space for exhibitions and events.
Lastly, they’re proposing a new Kitchen Exhibition Building. This will be a space for activities and live cooking demos, helping visitors learn about cooking methods from the past and present.
It’ll be right next to The Smithy, which is from 1750, and will cater to school visits and community events. Sounds like a fantastic way to engage the community!
