The UK Foreign Office has revised its travel advice for the USA after a tragic incident in New Orleans that left many injured.
New Orleans: So, there was this really awful incident on New Year’s Day. A vehicle drove into a crowd on Bourbon Street, and it was just devastating. Reports say 15 people lost their lives, and many more were hurt. It all happened in the early hours of January 1, which is supposed to be a time of celebration.
The FBI is looking into it, and they’ve identified the driver as a 42-year-old army vet from Texas. He was driving a truck that had the Islamic State flag on it. Apparently, he managed to get around a police blockade before crashing into the crowd. Sadly, he was shot by the police at the scene, and they think he might not have been acting alone.
In response, the UK Foreign Office updated its travel advice for the USA. They want to make sure that any British nationals in New Orleans know how to get help if they need it. They’ve provided contact numbers for assistance, which is really important in times like these.
Even Sir Keir Starmer, the UK Prime Minister, has spoken out about this. He called the attack “shockingly violent” and expressed his thoughts for the victims and their families. It’s just a tragic situation all around.
