Basingstoke: Criss Connor, who was a well-known figure in local politics, sadly passed away on December 29. He was 85 years old.

Criss served as the town’s mayor from 1975 to 1976, right before Basingstoke became a borough in 1978. He was a district councillor back in the 1970s, making a real impact in the community.

Later on, he represented the Winklebury ward on the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council from 2001 to 2006. He was also a Hampshire county councillor, serving from 1985 to 1989 and again from 2013 to 2017.

His contributions were recognized when he was named an Honorary Alderman, a title given for outstanding service as a councillor. Criss leaves behind his wife Angela, son Steven, daughter Jane, and two grandchildren.

The current Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Cllr Dan Putty, expressed gratitude for Criss’ decades of service to the community. He said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this very sad time.”

In honor of Criss, the flag at the council offices will be flown at half-mast on the day of his funeral, which is set for January 27.
