Plans have been submitted to convert the former care home into 23 new flats
Northfleet: A former care home that closed down unexpectedly almost two years ago might soon get a fresh start. There are plans to turn Dene Holm House into 23 flats, which sounds pretty exciting.
The proposal has been sent to Gravesham council, and if it gets the green light, we could see 23 new flats popping up. The building has been empty since it closed, but it’s been kept secure thanks to some guardianship arrangements.
Anchorage Prop Limited is behind the plans, aiming to transform the 4,665 square meter site into a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments. They’re even including some spaces for wheelchair users, which is a thoughtful touch.
Along with the flats, there are plans for some minor changes outside, like new doors and windows, plus some private patios and a communal area with wildflowers. It’s nice to see a focus on greenery!
The developers believe this project will help with the housing shortage in Gravesham and breathe new life into the old building. Local business owner Lisa Gordon thinks it’s a great idea, especially since the place looks a bit run-down right now.
She mentioned that affordable housing is much needed, especially with pricier homes being built around Ebbsfleet. While it’s a bummer that it won’t be another care home, there are other facilities opening nearby.
A decision on the plans is expected by March 20. The care home, which was run by Rapport Housing and Care, closed in January 2023 due to staffing issues and rising costs. It’s a tough time for the social care sector, and many homes are facing similar challenges.
