Steven Purcell, a former Labour leader, was caught drink driving in Glasgow, facing serious consequences for his actions
Glasgow: So, Steven Purcell was pulled over on the M77 motorway, and it turns out he was more than three times over the legal limit. This happened on October 10, and it’s quite a story.
He used to be the Labour council leader from 2005 to 2010 but had to step down due to alcohol issues. It’s a real shame because he was seen as a rising star back in the day.
After leaving politics, he started a consultancy business in 2010, helping companies with public relations. But now, he’s in a bit of trouble again.
In court, he pleaded guilty to drink driving. There was another charge for careless driving, but that one was dropped. Apparently, he was driving too fast, which didn’t help his case.
The prosecutor mentioned that police had to stop him after noticing a strong smell of alcohol. When they tested him, he blew a reading of 76 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, way over the limit of 22.
His lawyer said he’s embarrassed and sorry for wasting everyone’s time. He runs a small business, and losing his driving privileges will hit him hard.
The sheriff gave him credit for pleading guilty right away and decided on a 12-month driving ban along with a £520 fine. It’s a tough lesson for him.
