Lincoln: So, there’s this former police inspector, Jonathan Mellor, who’s in a bit of hot water. He’s at a misconduct hearing after a pretty wild incident where he punched a guy on the A46.

This all went down back in May 2021, and now he’s defending his actions. He’s accused of not following proper conduct rules, like using force and being disrespectful. The hearing kicked off today at Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln and should wrap up tomorrow.

Apparently, Mellor was on duty when he got into it with a guy named Mr. Price. They had pulled over because Mr. Price thought Mellor was taking a picture of him while driving. Things escalated, and it got physical.

Footage from the incident shows Mellor, in a black jacket over his police uniform, throwing a punch and then stamping on Mr. Price’s foot. It’s a bit shocking, to say the least. After the scuffle, he didn’t even use his handcuffs.

Mellor, who has over 30 years of experience, claims he stands by what he did. He says it was necessary to control the situation. He even mentioned that he felt threatened by Mr. Price, who he described as aggressive.

During his testimony, he explained that he was just trying to keep everyone safe, including Mr. Price and his wife. He admitted he was a bit annoyed that day because he had to cover a larger area than usual due to another inspector being absent.

He also mentioned that he was aware he was being filmed and that he had introduced himself as an officer, even if he didn’t show his badge. The police counsel, however, painted a different picture, saying he was the aggressor in the situation.

As the hearing continues, it’s clear that there are two sides to this story. The panel will decide soon whether Mellor’s actions were justified or if he crossed the line. It’s definitely a case to keep an eye on!
