An Arizona man was arrested for stealing over $200,000 in cryptocurrency while impersonating an Uber driver
Scottsdale: So, there’s this wild story about a guy named Nuruhussein Hussein. He got arrested for pretending to be an Uber driver and stealing a ton of cryptocurrency from unsuspecting passengers.
Apparently, he swiped around $200,000 worth of crypto from people’s digital wallets. Can you believe that? He was caught by the police after they teamed up with the Secret Service to investigate this whole scheme.
From March to December, he was hanging around a hotel, picking up folks who thought they were getting a ride. But instead, he tricked them into using their phones to look up directions or connect to the Uber app.
While they were distracted, he managed to transfer their cryptocurrency into his own wallet. It’s pretty sneaky, right? At the time of his arrest, the stolen crypto was valued at over $200,000.
Now, he’s sitting in Maricopa County jail with a hefty bond. The prosecutors are worried he might try to skip town since he often travels to Ethiopia. They want to keep a close eye on him if he gets out on bond.
They’re even asking for electronic monitoring and a ban on internet use, just to make sure he doesn’t pull any more tricks. It’s a crazy situation, and the investigation is still ongoing.
