The Glen Sannox ferry is set to start its service on January 13, despite a new defect being found in its hydraulic system
Trooon: So, the Glen Sannox ferry is finally ready to hit the waters, but not without a hiccup. They found oil contamination in the hydraulic system, which means they’ll have to swap out a part. Unfortunately, that part won’t make it in time for the ferry’s first trip.
CalMac has announced that the Glen Sannox will officially start sailing on January 13, running between Troon and Brodick on Arran. Can you believe it’s been over six years late and way over budget?
Since they got the ferry in mid-November, the crew has been busy with sea trials and getting familiar with the vessel. CalMac mentioned that a few minor issues will still need fixing as they get started, just like with their last two new ferries.
They checked the oil cleanliness in the hydraulic system, and thankfully, it’s all good. The filters are doing their job, and everything else on board is working fine.
With the demand for ferry services high, this little snag won’t mess with their plans or capacity. Duncan Mackison, the CEO of CalMac, said a lot of hard work went into getting the Glen Sannox ready for service.
He compared launching a new ferry to moving into a new house—there might be a few things to fix, but it’s safe to live in. They’re excited to welcome passengers aboard and believe this ferry will be a great asset for the Arran community.
