Llanrwst: So, there’s been a bit of a stir in North Wales lately. Couples who thought they had sealed their love with locks on Gower’s Bridge are feeling pretty heartbroken. This bridge has been the go-to spot for lovers wanting to show their commitment for years.

Recently, though, the local council decided to cut off a bunch of these love locks without any heads-up. People are scratching their heads, wondering why. One woman from Llandudno was especially upset. She had a lock there from when her partner proposed last year, and they even visited it on Christmas Day.

These love locks are usually engraved with names, and the idea is to toss the key away as a sign of forever love. The trend started from a novel back in 2006, and since then, many bridges worldwide have been covered in these tokens of affection.

While Gower’s Bridge isn’t as famous as the Pont des Arts in Paris, it still held a few locks. By 2018, there were only about 40 locks on it. But still, it was a special place for many. So, why did the council remove them? They said it wasn’t really about the weight but more about the rusting mesh caused by the locks.

They acknowledged that while it’s a romantic gesture, it can actually harm the bridge. It’s a shame because Gower’s Bridge is surrounded by beautiful meadows and has a lovely vibe. It was built in 1947 to connect Llanrwst with Trefriw, and it’s been a hidden gem for walkers.

Now, some locals are feeling a bit robbed of their memories. One woman took to social media, asking who made the decision to remove the locks. She wanted hers back because it meant so much to her. The council hasn’t said what happened to the locks they took off, which is leaving people even more frustrated.

In other places, councils have melted down removed locks or scrapped them altogether. But in Bakewell, couples were allowed to take their locks back after a public outcry. It’s a tough situation, and for many, the bridge just doesn’t feel the same anymore.
