Newquay: So, there’s been a bit of a stir in this popular seaside town. A luxury resort has just been given the thumbs up, and folks are not happy about it.

This new place, called the Green Ridge Resort, is set to have 400 lodges on a huge chunk of land. It’s going up on the outskirts of Newquay, and it’s got locals fuming.

The Cornwall Council gave the go-ahead to Kingsley Leisure Developments, and they’re planning to start building soon. But many residents are scratching their heads, wondering why this is happening.

Some locals are worried about the impact on the area. One resident pointed out that with another luxury resort closing down, there’s really no need for this new one. It’s a fair point, right?

Abe Simpson from the developers claims they’re not trying to copy existing holiday parks. They want to create something fresh for Cornwall. But not everyone is convinced.

Jonathan Lambe, speaking for the objectors, had a lot to say during a long debate. He argued that this resort would mess with the landscape and local community. Plus, he thinks the economic benefits are a bit of a stretch.

Visit Cornwall is also worried, saying the market is already pretty full. And it seems like a lot of people agree, with around 350 objections filed online.

The resort is supposed to be eco-friendly, with features like an indoor activity center, a swimming pool, and even a water park. Sounds nice, but at what cost?

They’re planning to have loads of outdoor activities too, which could be fun. But some locals fear it’ll turn into a mini-village, overwhelming the area.

Lambe made a strong case for supporting existing holiday parks instead of building a massive new one. He believes this could really hurt local businesses and change the vibe of the town.

In the end, it’s a tough situation. The balance between development and preserving the charm of Newquay is a tricky one.
