Garton Caravan Site seeks approval for 15 static caravan pitches to enhance holiday offerings near Coylton, boosting local tourism.
Coylton: Garton Caravan Site Ltd is looking to expand its offerings. They’ve applied to South Ayrshire Council to add 15 static caravan pitches for holiday use. This site has been around for a while, allowing 25 touring caravans for holidays.
The park operates for 11 months each year, closing in January as part of its permit. It has separate toilet and shower facilities, plus a wash block located along the northern boundary.
The owners want to keep 13 touring caravan spaces while adding the new static pitches. This means more visitors can enjoy the site when it’s full. The static caravans will be sold to individuals for personal use, not rented out weekly.
According to planning documents, each pitch will have two dedicated parking spaces and will be placed on existing hard standings, ensuring no encroachment into the surrounding woodland.
With the new plans, they’ll retain the existing toilet block and wash facilities for the touring pitches. A new treatment plant will be set up at the western end, along with a refuse and recycling area next to the garage.
The proposal aims to benefit the local community by attracting longer-staying visitors. The documents suggest that selling the holiday caravans will encourage owners to return frequently, unlike passing tourists who might just stop for a night.
While some touring caravan owners may stay longer, having static caravans will likely lead to more frequent visits. This could positively impact the wider community, as holidaymakers in static vans are more inclined to use local services in Coylton, which has a variety of facilities.
