Glasgow: The city is buzzing with excitement as it kicks off a year-long celebration for its 850th birthday. Everyone connected to Glasgow is invited to join in, share their stories, and explore their own city like tourists.

After announcing the main events last September, more details are finally coming out. There’s a lot to look forward to!

Signature events include “Taste the Place,” which offers free self-guided experiences to celebrate Glasgow’s amazing food scene. Plus, there’s the “People’s Palace Pop-Up,” a free exhibition that will tour different communities, showcasing Glasgow’s rich social history through cool artifacts and photos.

And let’s not forget the Clyde Chorus, a three-day music event featuring local talent at various venues along the River Clyde. It’s going to be a blast!

In July, there will be activities to honor St Teneu, the mother of St Mungo, and a celebration of Glasgow’s Gaelic heritage as we gear up for the Royal National Mod Gaelic festival next year.

The programme will keep evolving throughout the summer to include even more events for the second half of 2025. How exciting is that?

First Bus is getting in on the action too! They’ve commissioned a special pink Glasgow 850 bus to help people travel between events all year long. It’s a fun way to get around!

This year-long celebration is designed to engage everyone, no matter their age or background. It’s all about bringing the community together and showcasing what makes Glasgow so special.

Councillor Susan Aitken is thrilled about the milestone, saying there’s something for everyone—from arts and culture to food and music. Local groups and businesses are still adding events, showing just how much support there is for this celebration.

Graeme Macfarlan from First Bus is also excited, highlighting how their services connect communities and bring people together. It’s a great way to celebrate Glasgow’s vibrant musical scene!
