Gloucester City Council is investing £200,000 to enhance safety and reduce anti-social behaviour in the city centre over the next two years
Gloucester: The city is facing some challenges with anti-social behaviour, especially in the city centre. To tackle this, the council is putting £200,000 into a new plan aimed at making things safer for everyone.
This new initiative is set to kick off soon, with a cabinet meeting coming up this month. They’re planning to hire two engagement officers who will be out and about on the streets, making their presence known.
These officers will focus on issues like vandalism, litter, and problems related to alcohol. They’ll also connect with people involved in anti-social behaviour, offering help with housing and addiction issues.
The project will work alongside the existing Community Protection Officers, helping to build strong ties with the public and local businesses.
Interestingly, police have noted a significant drop in “horrendous” anti-social behaviour in some suburbs, particularly among young people.
Councillor Rebecca Trimnell, who’s in charge of Community Engagement at the council, expressed her excitement about the project. She believes it’s just what Gloucester needs and shows their commitment to tackling crime and safety issues.
She emphasized the importance of engaging with vulnerable community members and is optimistic about the project’s success.
