A glow walk in John O’Groats raised over £736 for a new playpark, bringing total funds to over £107,000 in memory of local woman Julie McGee
Over 59 participants, ranging from toddlers to seniors, braved the chilly weather for the 5km walk. They lit up the night with bright clothes, torches, and glow sticks, starting from Café Groats.
The event raised £736.20, adding to the impressive total of over £107,000 collected so far. The playpark aims to be a fantastic space for families and visitors alike, reflecting Julie’s love for fun and outdoor activities.
Mairi Anne shared that despite some street lights being out, the group was well-prepared with torches. The local fire brigade even helped illuminate a dark area near the café.
The total cost for the playpark is estimated at over £375,000, and future plans include a pump track and games area. The community is also gearing up for a 26-mile sponsored walk from Wick to John O’Groats on June 7, inviting anyone interested to join in.
