A video showing police officers using excessive force during an arrest at Manchester Airport has been sent to a watchdog for review
Manchester: So, there’s been quite a stir over a video that’s making the rounds. It shows police officers seemingly going overboard while arresting a guy at the airport. The footage, captured by a traveler, shows the man on the ground while officers are seen kneeling on him, punching, and kicking him. Not a good look, right?
According to the Greater Manchester Police, they’re already on it. They’ve reached out to the Independent Office for Police Conduct to take a closer look at the situation. They mentioned that the man involved is okay and doesn’t want to file a formal complaint, but he’s still on police bail.
Now, the watchdog will decide if they need to dig deeper into this incident or if the police can handle it themselves. They haven’t made any calls yet about whether the officers in the video will face any consequences, like suspension or restricted duties.
The footage shows one officer hitting the man multiple times and kicking him in the stomach. This all went down on December 29, around 1 PM, at one of the bus stops in the terminal. It seems the police were called because the man was causing a ruckus after being denied entry onto a bus.
When the officer arrived, the man resisted arrest, which led to more officers being called in. The video shows one officer holding the man’s head down while another pins his feet. It’s pretty intense, and understandably, people are concerned about the level of force used.
Earlier this week, GMP acknowledged the worries surrounding the video and said they’re reviewing all available footage, including body-worn camera recordings. It’s a situation that’s definitely caught a lot of attention, and folks are waiting to see what happens next.
