Andenne: A chilling story unfolded when Paulette Landrieux, an 83-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s, vanished from her garden two years ago.

Her husband, Marcel, was her full-time caregiver. One day, while hanging laundry, he turned his back for just a few minutes. When he looked for her, she was gone.

Marcel had set her up in front of the TV with lunch, thinking she’d be safe. But after searching the house and calling neighbors, he panicked and called the police.

Despite extensive searches, Paulette was missing for two long years. Marcel had almost given up hope of ever knowing what happened to her.

Then, in 2022, a neighbor stumbled upon a Google Street View image that showed Paulette walking away from their home. It was a breakthrough.

The image showed her crossing the street while Marcel was in the background. This led police to trace her path, which ended tragically in a nearby bramble bush.

Sadly, they found Paulette’s body there, believed to have been trapped and unable to return home. It’s a heartbreaking end to a long search.

This isn’t the first time Google Maps has helped solve a mystery. In another case, images led to arrests in a murder investigation.

It’s incredible how technology can sometimes provide answers in the most unexpected ways.
